York

Did you know that York heating and cooling has been around for over 130 years? That is a very long time for any business but it is especially impressive for a company that has seen the changes in technology such as York has.

The company was first founded in York, Pennsylvania in 1874 which is where its name came from. It is now owned by Johnson Controls, who, at one time, also owned Armstrong.

York has a full line of gas and oil furnaces with efficiencies ranging from 80% for the oil furnaces up to as high as 95% for their gas furnaces. But they offer more. In addition to the above, York also markets air conditioning systems, heat pumps, and packaged heating and cooling systems as an all-in-one option, which many homeowners find very attractive.

It should be noted that York’s line of furnaces may not be technologically advanced as some of the other manufacturers, but this does not mean that they are not as good as the others. Like some of the other leading brands of furnaces, York has a line of products that one might consider no-nonsense in that they are built with a back to basics approach in mind. For many homeowners this is not a negative point.

The York repair record is one of the best in the business and if you are on a tight budget, the York brand might be the ticket. While some of their efficiency levels are below those of the other brands, it should be noted that if you live in location that does not suffer from extreme cold, this lower level (at a lower price) can be a livable option for you. If you do live in a cold climate, then you want to make sure that you get as much efficiency as possible for your money. This will be important and you should investigate all brands before choosing one.

As with all furnaces, the York furnaces must be properly maintained in order for them to work properly. This is especially true if you are buying a lower efficiency model. The lower price for these units will mean nothing to you if they break down when you need them most and the repairs are costly. Much of that trouble can be avoided by doing the maintenance that is required.

The York brand is right for many people, but, again, it is always best to investigate all of your options before you buy. You can visit the York website for more information on their products as well as get a look at the efficiency levels for the models that they carry.
