Product Reviews
Product reviews for heating and cooling units can be a godsend or they can be a nightmare, depending on how reliable and honest they are. Another issue with heating and cooling product reviews is that there are just so many of them. In order to save time, you may want to consider following some of these suggestions.
Before you begin looking for product reviews, determine if you want to look at reviews that are based on one of the following broad categories: budget furnaces, furnace for whole-home comfort, or high efficiency furnace systems. If you think about it, you may agree that these three categories will cover just about any heating or furnace need that you have. It is a good way to exclude those product reviews that will not be of interest to you.
Another set of terms that you may want to use in some form of searching are price, efficiency levels, and environmental aspects. These terms will return more results but the results may have to be sifted through in order to get to what you really want to see.
Of particular importance when reading product reviews of any kind, be they for furnaces or widgets, is to consider who is writing the reviews. Most of the more reputable sources, those whom you have probably heard of before, do a good job of gathering only honest appraisals from true customers. An example of this might be Consumer's Reports. Other sources that are just as reputable come from certain trade organizations and from certain testing facilities.
There is another source for product reviews that is somewhat new. This is the online blog sites that offer information on just about every device you can think of, including heating and cooling units. It goes without saying, however, that what you read here should be taken with a grain of salt. Many of these places are more akin to vague complaints than they are as focused reviews of individual products.
One of the best tips for evaluating product reviews is to always keep yourself focused on what you need. A few examples of why this can be important to you follow.
If you live in a warm climate, your heating needs are probably minimal. It would not make a lot of sense to buy the top of the line, highest efficiency furnace (unless you simply wanted to) as you will not need this added level of heating power. In this case, you may want to limit your product reviews to the mid-efficiency level models.
By excluding the models that you know you do not need to look at, you can make short work of your product reviews and have a better understanding of what you need when you are finished.
